Marshal Laurent Gouvion-Saint-Cyr (1764-1830). A great military leader, he scored many successes. His victories in Spain, at the head of the Catalan army, and in Russia at the battle of Polotsk, earned him the title of Maréchal d’Empire. Tense relations with Napoleon were certainly one of the reasons for his absence during the 100 Days. Nicknamed “the owl” by his men, he was the only Marshal to be taken prisoner (Dresden 1813). He is shown here as General-in-Chief of the cuirassiers. Early manufacture by Gustave Vertunni, France, circa 1950. Solid lead figurine. Scale 55mm to eye line. Overall height: 60 – 65mm.
