Jean Sans Peur (1371-1419), Duke of Burgundy and Count of Flanders. He developed the policy of Burgundy’s independence from the French crown, initiated by his father, Duke Philip the Bold. He ordered the assassination of Louis d’Orléans, the king’s brother, and was himself assassinated in reprisal on the orders of the future Charles VII.
