Eugène de Beauharnais (1781-1824). Son of Joséphine de Beauharnais, who married Napoleon Bonaparte in 1796. The latter took him under his protection before officially adopting him in 1806. He took him to Italy and Egypt as aide-de-camp. At the start of the Empire, his military career accelerated. He became colonel-general of the Chasseurs à cheval de la Garde, then brigadier-general, major-general and Viceroy of Italy. In 1809, at the head of the Army of Italy on the road to Vienna, he won three decisive victories before joining the Imperial Army at Wagram. He is shown here as a colonel of the Chasseurs à Cheval de la Garde, but the blue should be green! The colors of the document that inspired Vertunni have faded, hence the misunderstanding. Early manufacture by Gustave Vertunni, France, circa 1950. Solid lead figurine. Scale 55mm to eye line. Overall height: 60 – 65mm.
