Charles VII (1403-1461). Son of Charles VI and Isabeau of Bavaria. On his father’s death in 1422, he became King of France. The country was torn apart by the conflict between the Armagnacs and the Burgundians. The English had not abandoned their claim to the French crown. Taking refuge in Bourges, Charles VII was able to reconstitute loyal armies, relying on the faith and military talent of captains such as Arthur de Richemont, Jean de Dunois and, of course, Joan of Arc. He was crowned King of France in Reims in 1429. His victory over the English at Castillon in 1453 put a definitive end to the Hundred Years’ War. Made by Gustave Vertunni, France, circa 1945. Solid lead figurine. Scale: 55mm to eye line. Overall height: 60 – 65mm.
