Philip IV le Bel (1268-1314), king of France and Navarre. Son of Philip III le Hardi and his first wife, Isabella of Aragon. He was a great reformer who brought France from feudalism to a centralized and authoritarian state. His opposition to the papacy is indicative of the birth of a secular state. His reign is best remembered for the destruction of the Templar Order and the curse placed on the king’s descendants by Jacques de Molay at the stake. It was realized by putting an end to the branch of the direct Capetians. Old manufacture of Gustave Vertunni, France, around 1950. Hollow lead figurine, filled with plaster.
