General Lazare Hoche (1768-1797). Certainly one of the greatest soldiers of the French revolution. He begins his career in the royal army. It evolved in a dazzling way and he found himself general of division at the head of the army of Moselle in 1793. He suppressed the Chouan uprising in 1796, and was given command of the army of Sambre et Meuse in 1797. He died the same year of natural causes, at the age of 29 !
