Diane de Poitiers (1499-1566). Although twenty years her senior, she was the great favorite of King Henri II, who made her fortune. On the king’s death, she was ousted by Queen Marie de Médicis, who took over many of her possessions, including the Château de Chenonceaux. Early manufacture by Gustave Vertunni, France, circa 1940.
