Renée de France (1510-1575), youngest daughter of Louis XII and Anne of Brittany, married the Duke of Ferrara. The Italian Inquisition prosecuted her for welcoming and protecting Protestants at her court. She went into exile in France, where she continued to defend religious tolerance. Old manufacture of Gustave Vertunni, France, around 1950. Hollow lead figurine, filled with plaster. Scale 55mm to the eye line. Overall height : 60 – 65mm.
