Anne, Duchess of Brittany. 1477-1514. She married Maximilian, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, by proxy. Charles VIII opposed this union, defeated the Breton army and forced Anne to marry him (Treaty of Rennes 1491). She thus became queen of France. When Charles VIII died, she married his cousin and heir, Louis XII. Throughout her reign, she strives to preserve the independence of Brittany. Old manufacture of Gustave Vertunni, France, around 1940. Hollow lead figurine, filled with plaster. Scale 55mm to the eye line. Overall height: 60 – 65mm.
